New York City, NY - AD Partners was pleased and honored to host Nobel laureates Al Gore and Wangari Maathai who lead a landmark discussion on the need to protect tropical forests as a central element in the fight to stop climate change and as a key to international peace, stability and development. Moderated by Dan Rather, their discussion focused on the crucial role to be played by U.S. leaders in fighting deforestation, particularly in tropical regions, that accounts for about 20 percent of annual global greenhouse gas emissions and destabilizes vulnerable populations and regions.

The event, held on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008 at the Yale Club in New York City, represented an historic coming-together of the environmental and development communities to address this crucial issue. Other featured presenters included Kevin Knobloch, president of the Union of Concerned Scientists, Carter Roberts, president and CEO of World Wildlife Fund, and Helene Gayle, president and CEO of CARE, and featured closing remarks by Stuart Eizenstat, former U.S. ambassador. A “Call to Action“ on U.S. Leadership for Climate and Forest Protection was released at the event.
